* Unless otherwise stated, rates are exclusive of LDW/CDR, PAI, PEP and any refueling charges.
* CDW, PAI and deductible amounts are subject to change without notice.
* Minimum rental period is 24 hours. The 25th hour is free of charge. An extra day will be charged from the 26th hour onward.
* Rental times maximum of 30 days.
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard.
The balance is to be paid directly to the supplier on arrival.
The supplier accepts American Express, Visa and Mastercard. Debit cards deposits are accepted only if the customer accept to take the SLI and LDW coverages without exception.
In the event of cancellation the initial deposit paid remains non-refundable.
Apex will keep the car waiting for you for 24 hrs in low season and 2 hours in High Season, If you have a reservation and do not show up Apex will charge a No Show fee of $ 50 if you do not call us to cancel the reservation.
All the vehicles are delivered with full tank, and have to be returned at the same level. Customer can ask for the prepaid gas option and save money.
Customers who decline all the coverages have just 100 KM free per Day. Every extra Kilometer will be charged From $0.25/KM to $1.00/KM depending the category of rent.
1. What does the basic coverage include?
The Supplemental Liability is an option to basic liability. This only covers if the driver is declared guilty by a court or if the drivers accepts fault.
This coverage covers property and persons. Covers up to a maximum amount of C 50.000.000 per person or up to C 125.000.000 per event for medical expenses or death of persons involved either inside or outside the vehicle, non – relatives of the driver (until third degree of blood relation or affinity). In case of property ex: vehicles or houses, coverage is up to C 10.000.000
This cover can be declined, and the renter will be responsible for the total value of the damages caused to the rented car and and law cast as well other properties, vehicles or persons.
List of covers available at the counter:
Full cover (the rented car without any excess and third party coverage) $42,45 per day including 24hrs roadside assistance or $27,45 if your rate already includes CDW.
LDW - Liability Damage Waiver covers 100% of the damages with no excess $29,95 per day or $11 if your rate already includes CDW.
SLI - Supplemental Liability Cover or third party assistance for $1.000.000 per event $14,95 per day
CDW - Collision Damage Waiver ($1000 excesss) $18,95 per day
LDW - Liability Damage Waiver or full coverage: the deposit amount decreases from $1000 to $400.
2. Does the basic coverage have a deductible?
No, you will be responsible for the 100% of the car rental, if you want you can pay an extra.
3. Do you charge taxes or airport fees on rentals?
No, we only charge a ECOSOCIAL fee that is $2.9 per rent and License Plate Fee that is $2.8 per day.
4. What is the cost for an extra driver?
If the extra driver is the Spouse or direct family member there is no cost; if not there will be a $5 extra charge per day.
5. What is the cost of a contract extension / overdue?
There is a charge of $10 per contract extension or overdue.
6. Can you deliver to or pick up the car from my hotel? is there an extra charge for these services?
Yes, we do deliver and pick up our vehicles at your hotel if it´s located within 3 kilometres from our station, no drop off or pick up charges apply.
A Drop Off or Pick up fee of $0.5 per kilometer will be charged when the hotel is located more than 3km away from our station. The price can change depending on the distance, availability and season.
7. What is the minimum age permitted to rent a car?
The minimum age of the renter or one of the additional drivers must be 25. Clients from the age of 21-24 may rent with our Double Deductible Program and an extra charge of $ 10 per day.
Drivers over the age of 25 may rent. For an additional surcharge APEX can raise the insurance deductible in order for younger drivers to be able to rent. This same policy is also used if any additional drivers are under the age of 25.
8. Can I use someone else´s credit card for the deposit?
No. No one other than the person named on the credit card may use that credit card for the deposit. The owner of the credit card must be present at the time of rental.
Any card that is used for rent and deposit must contain the information in relief.
9. What is the amount of the deposit required on my credit card?
If you take the SLI, the amount held on your credit card of the deductible will be:

|FFAR||Rav 4 plus Automatic||$1,500.00|
If not the deposit will be $3000. This amount is frozen on your credit card only until you have arrived at one of our offices. APEX does not charge your credit card until the car is returned to us at the end of the rental.
10. Can the car leave the country?
No. No car can be taken outside the Costa Rica borders.
11. Do you rent cars by the hour?
Rent rates are based on a minimum of 24 consecutive hours. If you return the vehicle prior to meeting the 24 hour requirement, you would be charged for the full day regardless of whether you returned the vehicle early.
12. Will APEX Car Rental pick me up for free?
APEX Car Rental will pick you up at the exit of the main terminal of Juan Santamaría / SJO Airport. You will find our representative outside waiting to help you with your luggage and escort you out of the airport to our shuttle van. The shuttle van will take you to our off airport pick up/return office located less than 1KM away.
13.Do you accept credit card insurance?
Yes we do.
14. Do you accept cash, traveler checks or debit cards for deposit?
No we do not accept deposit in cash or traveler checks,
We accept debit cards deposits only if the customer accept to take the SLI coverage without exception.
15. What should I know to have a great and safe vacation?
It is very important to take good care of your passport. Always carry a copy of your passport and keep the original in the safety deposit box of your hotel, along with money, jewelry and valuable objects.
When doing bank transactions, you must present your original passport. Use only banks or authorized agencies for exchanging your money.
Use automatic teller machines located in public and well illuminated places. Be careful of any offer of strangers when using the machines, withdraw the cash and count it before going outside.
Keep all your goods in sight and reach. If you use public transportation, always keep an eye on them.
When using taxi services, verify that they comply with the legal established requirements, such as the yellow triangles printed on the doors and a meter. Always ask the staff at your hotel to call a taxi from a reliable company.
If you are lost and in need of checking your map, look for public and safe place to do it, or turn to the police authorities for help.
While driving or parking car, lock the doors and keep the windows closed. Do not leave your personal belongings inside the vehicle.
If you get a flat tire, if you are suspiciously warned of a damage, if you are suspiciously hit from behind or if you are being followed while driving, do not stop and immediately look for the closer gas station or police or dial 911 when possible.
Avoid stopping when a stranger asks you for a ride.
16. Can I drive into a river, lagoons o estuaries a APEX Car rental even though is a 4x4?
No!!!... Do not drive the vehicle through rivers, beaches, estuaries, or the sea, nor will operate it against traffic laws or by-laws, not in streets, grounds or roads where the car can be damaged, since in all cases above, the lessee will have to cover all the charges for damages causes to the vehicle even when the special DRO coverage was accepted, because in the circumstances described such coverage has no effect. Use of the car in these conditions allows Centriz to terminate this clause, without affecting the charging of the resulting damages through the appropriate procedures.
17. You can smoke inside vehicles APEX?
No. If we find out you have smoked inside any of our vehicles, you will be charged an amount of $ 250.
18. Traffic Fines/Violations?
According to the Costa Rica new traffic law. In case of any traffic infraction during the rental period, you need to cancel the fine at any state bank (Banco Nacional, Banco Costa Rica, Banco Popular) otherwise you may not board your flight, since the Immigration Department strictly check your status for leaving the country.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
